Kanmuriyama Park is known as the largest Japanese plum tree orchard in the Yamaguchi prefecture. About 2000 Japanese plum trees will blossom in this park. The Defense Language Apititude Battery (DLAB) is a test the military services use to measure a service member’s ability to learn a foreign language. This test DOES NOT attempt to gauge a person's fluency in a given language, but rather to determine their ability to learn a language.

It is used as a classifier in determining eligibility for formal language training.

Yanagawa Hina Doll Sagemon Festival was started in order to let many people appreciate this heartwarming practice and gorgeous “sagemon (ornaments displayed at both sides of a tiered stand for dolls)”.

The highlight of this festival is to watch a parade of Tairano Kiyomori who once was a general of late Heian period of Japan. He founded the construction of Itsukushima shrine building. Kiyomori Shrine was built in 1954 to eulogize the achievement of the famous General Taira-no-Kiyomori.

Between a ferry port to Kiyomori shrine, costumed people will parade on the road.

In case of rain, they may change the location to the inside of shrine.

The Defense Language Apititude Battery (DLAB) is a test the military services use to measure a service member’s ability to learn a foreign language. This test DOES NOT attempt to gauge a person's fluency in a given language, but rather to determine their ability to learn a language.

It is used as a classifier in determining eligibility for formal language training.

The Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT version 5 - online) will be given today to military members who have a need to test in a language other than English.

The Akiyoshi (Shuhodo) cave measures 420,000 cubic meters and took over 300,000 years to form. It is the largest limestone cave in Japan and attracts tourists all over Japan. After exploring the cave, we will visit Safari Land where you can observe wildlife from various countries.

This workshop will be taught by MCAS Iwakuni's very own Protocol Officer, Dave Garber. Mr. Garber possesses over 20 years of experience in the Protocol field and has attended premier training events in this area.

Healthy Habits is designed to teach youth the benefits of eating right and being physically active. Youth will adopt healthier habits through fun and engaging activities. Generally, divorce can be traumatic for kids. Everything they believed about stability and family structure has changed. They often feel a sense of powerlessness and loss. If it were up to them, mom and dad would love each other and want to be together. Because of the way kids process information at a young age, they can come to believe that the divorce is their fault and feel a sense of shame or that they are bad.

Loving the New Parent

Loving the new parent can feel like betraying the other parent. Feelings of anger, hate, or frustration can be projected onto the new parent even if the new parent had nothing to do with the divorce.

Step-Parenting and Co-Parenting Class

This class helps step-parents learn to focus on what they can control and how to let go of what they can't control. It helps parents learn how to provide opportunities for closeness without forcing relationships. It gives parents words that they can use with their kids to show empathy and understanding as well as set limits and expectations within the new family structure.

The Armed Forces Classification Testing is offered twice a month and is ONLY for active duty personnel who are trying to improve their current ASVAB scores for a specific military reason, i.e., reenlistment, application for an officer program, lateral move, etc. Unit approval and confirmation documention is required for testing. The Party Animals Live is an interactive Rock 'n Roll Musical for the whole family. The "party" starts the moment the first family arrives at the door. They are personally greeted with "welcome to the party" and are immediately escorted over to one of our face painters to get made up like their favorite character in the show. After having their face painted, they meet one of our balloon artists who will create a colorful puppy dog, swan, hat, or balloon sculptor of the child's choice while telling jokes and playing games at the same time. After they are made up and have their balloon they are escorted in to find their seat where the party continues. There is "Kiddie" Rock Music already playing and as they locate their seats they are entertained by our stilt walkers. After everyone has settled in, an MC takes the stage to pump up the energy, play some more games, and handout a few give-a-ways. Then the concert begins with The Party Animals, a Rock 'n Roll Band for the kids, made up to look like animals; Kaiya the Kangaroo, Walter the Fox, Brandon the Bear, Lance the Lion and their friends Dee and Jay.

Once on stage, they sing and dance to some of the coolest kid songs ever written with fun beats and friendly lyrics that the parents will soon find themselves dancing along with their kids. The show is interactive and encourages audience participation (Dance along to "Freeze Dance" and sing along with the "Rock A Byes"). Not only is there great singing and dancing but you really get to meet these characters throughout funny scenes that will have the children belly laughing in their seats. We end the show with a huge participation number that gets the whole audience on their feet as we "Rock This House." As the families leave they are invited to a meet and greet with the cast outside to sign autographs. The Party Animals experience lasts about an hour and a half; the perfect amount of time that leaves the kids wanting to come back for more. With all the colorful costumes, interesting characters, and catchy tunes, this is one family event that everyone can enjoy!

The Aquatics Branch offers an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Class. Participants must be at least 15 years old. Cost is $80, which includes all supplies.
Pre-skills screening will be conducted on April 6 at 6 PM at the Ironworks Indoor Pool. Those who successfully complete the pre-skills screening will be able to take the Lifeguarding class. Kids Serve Too. April is the “Month of the Military Child”. Join us at the Clam Shell/Crossroads Mall Amphitheater as we celebrate our youngest heroes. Entertainment, games, face painting, information and prizes! Fun, food and beverages will be available.

Every Saturday, Sunday and Holiday at 2 PM, the Marine Lounge hosts its weekly Pool Tournaments. Saturdays are Nine-Ball Tournaments and Sundays are Eight-Ball Tournaments. The archers wear full formal hunting costumes of the Kamakura era called "A-ge-Shozoku", and shoot arrows at targets set up while riding a horse along a 250m straight riding track. This ceremony is described as a lively picture scroll showing the audiences a great spectacle and the aspects of the hearts and spirits in the Japanese Samurai warriors in the Kamakura era.

Children, Youth & Teen Programs will sponsor a base-wide Easter Egg Roll for children ages 12 and under at the 9th hole of Torii Pines Golf Course, next to Club Iwakuni. We'll take you to a gym in Hiroshima with bouldering and rock climbing facilities available. There are 2 floors of various climbing difficulties.

Self-Defense Workshop

The month of April has been designated Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) in the United States. The goal of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence.

The Family Advocacy Program will be hosting a self-defense class for women which includes tools and education on how to defend themselves from an attacker.

The truth with self-defense is that the more prepared you are, the less likely you are to need it. When you can recognize and respond effectively to potentially dangerous situations, you are more confident in your everyday activities. You are also less likely to become a target of crime.
In this class you will begin to develop an awareness of your surroundings and learn how to prevent putting yourself in vulnerable situations by using risk reduction and avoidance as well as realizing your own physical power.

This class will also address topics such as:

What are my natural weapons?
What are my targets?
How do I hit properly?
What if I’m pinned to the ground?
How do I get a man twice my size off my body?
What if I’m being choked?
What if someone grabs me from behind?
What if I’m pushed to the ground?
What to do when someone pulls my hair?
What can I do when I’m on the ground?

Generally, divorce can be traumatic for kids. Everything they believed about stability and family structure has changed. They often feel a sense of powerlessness and loss. If it were up to them, mom and dad would love each other and want to be together. Because of the way kids process information at a young age, they can come to believe that the divorce is their fault and feel a sense of shame or that they are bad.

Loving the New Parent

Loving the new parent can feel like betraying the other parent. Feelings of anger, hate, or frustration can be projected onto the new parent even if the new parent had nothing to do with the divorce.

Step-Parenting and Co-Parenting Class

This class helps step-parents learn to focus on what they can control and how to let go of what they can't control. It helps parents learn how to provide opportunities for closeness without forcing relationships. It gives parents words that they can use with their kids to show forth empathy and understanding as well as set limits and expectations within the new family structure.

We begin at Imabari City and bike a scenic path across seven bridges, arriving in Onomichi City in Hiroshima Prefecture, enjoying many sightseeing activities along the way.

Bike stations along the way provide easy drop-off points for those who don't want to complete the entire 70km trek. A guide will pick up customers along the path throughout the day.

Two-day course focusing on combat readiness for performance-based and functional strength concepts. This course teaches the PT leader how to create effective training programs in preparation for combat, the CFT and PFT. The Cultural Adaptation Program and MCCS offers a guided bus tour of local venues. Participants get the opportunity to become familiar with programs offered by MCCS along with local area attractions. The only requirement is that you pre-register with the Information, Referral and Relocation Office in building 411, Room 101. You must register in person in order to receive your receipt for sign-up to present to your supervisor or command. The tour is open to all SOFA personnel and their dependents age 5 and older. Childcare will be provided for dependents under age 5 and those requiring after school care for the initial cultural tour. Participation in subsequent tours will require participants to pay for childcare.

Passport to Manhood addresses such issues as decision-making, wellness, cooperation and conflict. There will be food, plenty of fun and good friends. No registration is required and there is no fee. Young men age 10-15. Call 253-6454.

Daimyo Gyoretsu commemorates the annual journey of the daimyo, or feudal lord, to Edo (present day Tokyo) during the Tokugawa period. In the afternoon, you can witness the daimyo procession from a nearby public school to the Kintai Bridge. Along with this highlight, there will be other events such a flea market, matchlock gun demonstration, martial arts and more.

We'll take you to a gym in Hiroshima with bouldering and rock climbing facilities available. There are 2 floors of various climbing difficulties.

On the first day, we will take you to Kumamoto Castle, which is one of the most beautiful castles in Japan before checking in the hotel in downtown Kumamoto.

On Day 2,we will take you to Amakusa inlet for dolphin watching! Amakusa is known as the world famous spot for dolphin watching, and it is said 300-500 dolphins live around the inlet. It is so powerful that lots of wild dolphins gather to swim and jump in great Amakusa inlet, and said to have a effect of healing.
