Kintaikyo Roofed boat ride

During the cherry blossom season on Kintai bridge area, you walk through the area of blossomed trees and boat ride is the other angle to watch colorful scenery. This boat ride only runs on weekends from March 20 to May 6 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Twenty minutes ride fee will be charged.

Kiyomori Shrine Matsuri

This Matsuri will be held at Kiyomori Shrine to remember the achievements of the famous general, Taira-no-Kiyomori. Traditional Japanese Court dance accompanied with music will be held at Itsukushima Shrine. This event will be held from 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 20.

Antique Hina dolls which have been collected privately will be displayed in historical residence or shops. You can watch hina dolls display from March 25 to April 3 on Miyajima island. The admission ticket can be bought at Miyajima information center at the pier.

White Fox Festival in Yamaguch

On Saturday, April 3rd and Sunday, April 4, there will be “White Fox Festival” in Yamaguchi city. It was once told that long ago, an injured white fox cured its injuries by soaking legs in the Yuda Onsen. This was the legend that how people found the Yuda hot spring. On Saturday night, children holding torch lights march through the streets as part of the evening fox torch-light parade. The participated hot spring site is opened at no charge and lively events are held at the site of Yuda onsen area. Festival time is 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sat., and 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sun.

Hiwatari (Walking over fire)

This Shinto ritual held at Daishoin temple on Miyajima island from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 15. Ceremony starts like burning small pieces of scented wood before Buddhist altar for spiritual purification. Ascetics and believers walk over the burning embers praying to fulfill their own wishes. Walking over fire ritual will start from 1 p.m. If you wish to participate, you can walk over burning embers lining up after Buddhist monks and worshippers. No socks or shoes when you walk over the burning embers.

Toukasai (Peach Blossom Festiv

Original Noh stage in Itsukushima shrine was built with the donation from Motonari Mori in 1568. The origin of performing Noh on that state was to purify that shrine or corridors which were damaged by the cause of the Itsukushima battle in 1555. So they invited well-known Noh performers from Kyoto and had the Noh play and interlude. Three days from April 16, you can appreciate Noh performance in Kitaryu or Kanze-ryu styles at Itsukushima shrine. These performance starts from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (April 18 performance ends at 2 p.m.) The admission fee to Itsukushima shrine will apply.

Pottery fair in Hofu city
